Columbus Headquarters Chapter VREA plans wine-tasting event at Franklin Park Conservatory

by on April 23, 2013

FranklinPark425The AEP Veteran and Retired Employees’ Association (VREA), Columbus Headquarters Chapter, plans a wine and hors d’oeuvres event from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 1777 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio.

Spring has sprung! Come join your friends for an afternoon of splendor amongst the beautiful gardens, dynamic exhibits and artwork at the Conservatory. Featured exhibits are the annual “Blooms and Butterflies,” and “Sacrifice + Bliss” by Aurora Robinson. You will be dazzled by the butterflies of Brazil flying freely in the tropical Pacific Island Water Garden filled with lush foliage and bright blooms.

We will begin with wine tasting (five tastings total) paired with light hors d’oeuvres in The John F. Wolfe Palm House, the oldest portion of Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. The design of this grand Victorian-style glass greenhouse, built in 1895, was influenced by the success of Chicago’s World Fair and Columbian Exposition in 1893 and inspired by the City Beautiful movement. After your wine tasting, enjoy a stroll through the Conservatory, exhibits and botanical gardens.

For more information, contact Diana Love at (614) 583-6123 (AEP office). This event is open to AEP employees and retirees. You do not have to be a VREA member to participate.

Cost is $15 for VREA members and $35 for guests and AEP employees. Please send check payable to AEP VREA by April 26 to Diana Love, AEP, 4th floor, Suite 500, 155 W. Nationwide Blvd., Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Save the date! Columbus HQ VREA plans a bus trip to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, July 7.
