Bill Sigmon, AEP senior vice president – Engineering, Projects & Field Services, has been named Distinguished Alumnus by the faculty of the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University.

The presentation was made on the NC State campus Nov. 12 before several hundred faculty members, graduates and undergraduates in Industrial Engineering, and honored guests from the Research Triangle.

Sigmon, who holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from NC State, Raleigh, is one of five members of the seventh class of inductees.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award is the highest honor the department can present to a graduate. It recognizes contributions to the individual’s professions, community and/or the department, college or university.

Work history of the five recipients represented a broad range of professional involvement in collegiate and industry leadership positions. Remarks made by the Dean of Engineering reflected the individual contributions by the recipients. Sigmon focused his remarks on his studies at NCSU and his 40-plus year career in the electric utility industry. Goal setting, professional development and work balance were key elements of his remarks.

Sigmon joined AEP’s Generation organization in 2000. He previously was employed by the Duke Energy family of companies.
