Employees share the ups and downs of line work in new video

by on October 7, 2010

Lee Allred, senior lineman at SWEPCO, shares his
perspective on what it takes to be a lineman.

Line work is not an ordinary nine-to-five clock-in, clock-out job.  The phone may ring late at night or when the family is sitting down for Christmas dinner.  Any mistakes in this dangerous field could be deadly.

On the other hand, there is the camaraderie of working with a crew, praise from customers after restoring power, and the benefit of working in the great outdoors.

It’s a career that has ups and downs, but many AEP line workers wouldn’t have it any other way.  It’s their way of life and they explain it in this YouTube video, “My Life as a Lineman”.

Kudos to all involved in producing this touching and informative video. AEP should develop a similar video for power plants.

It made me even more proud to have been associated with AEP throughout my career.
